Kenya - Ngariama (Washed) - Filter
This is our first Kenyan of the new 2018/19 season, and it's a fantastic coffee. Some Kenyan's go down the route of clean and refined, while others are massive bursts of fruit - this is the latter. Further, this coffee has the body of a massive French wine, which is verging on intense.
Why did we buy this coffee?
We cupped around 20 Kenyan's before finding this coffee, with so many offering much less in terms of body and complexity. Ngariama has a complex and rich mouthfeel, something similar to a Merlot Wine and should almost be treated as such. We wanted a new standout black coffee for filter and we have definitely found it here.
What's good about it?
Kenyan Coffees are often regarded as massive flavour bombs and this coffee is no different. It's just a classic example of what makes Kenyan coffees so special. It's the kind coffee that shines when drank by its self, with delicious mouthwatering juice like qualities. Although I wouldn't say no to pairing it with a dark chocolate brownie!
What's the best way to brew it?
This coffee excels as a pour over (V60, Chemex, Woodneck or Kalita Wave etc), allowing you to draw out the more complex characteristics of this coffee. If you're more about that heavy body though try putting it through an Aeropress, Cafetiere, or Clever Dripper, as this will help bring out those bold characteristics.
Located on the slopes of Mount Kenya in the agriculturally rich Central Province. The Kainamui factory lies at an altitude of 1,800 metres above sea level which makes it ideal for coffee production. This washing station services around 1800 people, 1100 of whom are men and 700 of whom are women.
We roast on Tue, Wed & Thurs. Your coffee will be roasted within 5 days of purchase, with a shelf life of 6 weeks (optimum serving point of 10-36 days).
