Kenya - Kainamui AA (Washed) - Filter

Kainamui is our final Kenyan of the season and we’ve left the best till last. It is our most intense and complex Kenyan coffee yet, with a punchy acidity and a lasting sweetness.

Why did we buy this coffee?

We usually wouldn’t roast Kenyan coffees at this time of year as it is coming to the end of the season, but this coffee blew us away. It’s packed in 30kg Vac-pacs which helps to preserve the coffees moisture and freshness - it has an incredible vibrancy, so we opted to run an extra Kenyan as it was too good to miss.

What's good about it?

Kainamui is a classic Kenyan - it has a juicy, viscous body that is punctuated by an incredible rhubarb sweetness and an acidity that reminds us of wild raspberries.

What's the best way to brew it?

This coffee excels as a pour over (V60, Chemex or Kalita Wave etc), but will also stand up well a Cafetiere, Clever Dripper or Aeropress, offering you a full bodied full immersion coffee.

Wild Raspberry, Rhubarb and Cherry with a descriptor of Syrupy.

We roast on Tue, Wed & Thurs. Your coffee will be roasted within 5 days of purchase, with a shelf life of 6 weeks (optimum serving point of 10-36 days).

Background info:

The Kinamui factory serves about 1,800 smallholder coffee farmers who are members of the New Ngariama Farmers Cooperative Society. The smallholders own an average of 200 trees on less than half a hectare of land. Farmers in the area grow gravellea, macademia nuts, eucalyptus, tea, corn, and bananas in addition to coffee.

The factory receives field visits from agricultural ministers and agro-companies who offer training programs. The F.C.S. also provides pre-financing for farmers to allow them to pay school fees, production costs, and in case of emergencies.
