Name: StuartRole at Machina: Manager at Brougham PlaceAt Machina, you will normally find me… Chatting about coffee and playing jazzy tunes. To me, coffee is... My favourite overindulgence. What is your go-to coffee? I can never say no to an early morning piccolo! What kit do you use to make coffee at home? I’ve always been an Aeropress faithful but recently have been taking my time and making more v60 pourovers. Best coffee experience ever: Last year's coffee festival – like a kid in a sweet shop I must have tasted almost every coffee in the building!Worst coffee experience ever: A few hours after that coffee festival, I had a very jittery afternoon… Overall it may have been worth it but maybe just once a year! How did you end up working in coffee? Working in bars since 18 I always opted to be the one on the coffee machine. While captivated by the range of tasty spirits on the back bar, I was frustrated by the lack of good coffee. Chasing great flavour, my migration to the coffee industry was inevitable.Out of 10 how much of a coffee geek are you? I’d say 7/10 – I just like tasty coffee but can't help getting a bit geeky sometimes!Top coffee tip: Ask for recommendations – baristas are always happy to have a good chat about what they are serving! I often end up with a great cup following the advice of the person behind the machine. Most underrated hot beverage in your humble opinion: Shlong black – half espresso, half hot water. You can appreciate all the flavour of the espresso but with a slightly softened intensity. Great for the times when the punch of an espresso seems a bit daunting! What do you like to do when you're not drinking coffee? I hang out with my daughter, play bass and just always try to get outside whether it's up Arthur's Seat or just lounging in the meadows. What albums are in your current rotation? Black Focus – Yussef Kamaal, Soul Food Taqueria – Tommy Guerro, Honey Bones – Dope Lemon.Guiltiest pleasure: Kylie Minouge, sometimes I just can't get her out of my head.
